Violence erupts during Minneapolis protests over death of unarmed black man George Floyd

Police clashed with protesters in Minneapolis on Tuesday as demonstrations over the death of unarmed black man George Floyd who was detained by four police officers, grew violent into the night. Four Minneapolis police officers were fired over the death of Floyd, who was captured in a bystander video on Monday lying face down in the street while an officer knelt on his neck, even after he pleaded that he could not breathe and stopped moving. After a time of peaceful protesting, the gathering took a turn around dusk as police in riot gear fired tear gas and non-lethal bean-bag rounds into the crowds while protesters hurled water bottles and other projectiles. The FBI and state law enforcement were investigating Floyd’s death, which immediately drew comparisons to the case of Eric Garner, an unarmed Black man who died in 2014 in New York after he was placed in a chokehold by police and pleaded for his life, saying he could not breathe.
